DES MOINES RESIDENT PROMOTES PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN IOWA
Frank Strong Jr., who is legally blind, has relied on public transit systems throughout his entire life and he’s now touring Iowa to support local bus service.
Strong set a goal to ride all 18 fixed route public transit systems in the state. As he talks with passengers, and plays his guitar, he also educates the public on the importance of public transportation.
He also appreciates the recent advances in technology, such as NextBus that has been implemented in Iowa City-Coralville. Strong states,
“You can get on your iPhone there and find out where your bus is and when it will arrive at your bus stop or your destination,”
Choosing to take the bus is even more important in today’s society. Strong explains, “We know there’s a need to reduce our carbon footprint and also to make use of energy resources as carefully and prudently as we can, and transit is one way to do that. You can stand up for energy independence in the United States by using mass transit.”
